Harm Reduction Therapy Center
Executive Director
Jeannie Little is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker and Certified Group Psychotherapist. She is the Executive Director of the Harm Reduction Therapy Center, a non-profit agency providing harm reduction treatment for drug and alcohol users with other emotional problems. Since 1990 Ms. Little has been at the forefront of developing harm reduction treatment services for complex dually diagnosed clients. She has worked much of that time in homeless services and has developed a low-threshold community treatment model that has reached thousands of people who have had little to no mental health care. Most recently, she pioneered street-based pop-up drop-in centers that quickly became multi-service “clinics without walls” with services ranging from hot food to massage to psychotherapy to medical care.

Her prior experience includes ten years’ as a clinician and in program management in domestic violence programs and with emotionally disturbed families, children, and adolescents. She has written several papers on the topics of dual diagnosis and group treatment and a short series on trauma-informed care. She is co-author of the books Over the Influence: The Harm Reduction Guide for Managing Drugs and Alcohol and Practicing Harm Reduction Psychotherapy, an Alternative Approach to Addictions, 2nd Edition.

Ms. Little has taught hundreds of workshops for licensed clinicians and program staff on the topics of substance misuse, dual diagnosis, harm reduction, trauma-informed care, program development, and group treatment. She trains and provides ongoing consultation to numerous staff groups in outpatient clinics, outreach and drop-in centers, case management programs, and housing facilities for multi-diagnosed clients.

Ms. Little received her Masters Degree from New York University and her BA from Mount Holyoke College in Massachusetts. She is a member of the National Association of Social Workers, the American Group Psychotherapy Association, the Northern California Group Psychotherapy Society, and the Harm Reduction Coalition. She is certified with the National Registry of Group Psychotherapists and licensed to practice psychotherapy in the State of California.
