Laurette DeMandel-Schaller, MFT, Ph.D, lnc, has been in private practice for 36 years, providing Psychological and Family Court Services in Hawaii, and the mainland. Dr. Schaller is a Court Appointed Child Custody Evaluator, Guardian ad Litem, and Senior Mediator. She has been on staff at clinics and at four hospitals including Brea Hospital Neuropsychiatric Center. Her studies were completed in California and at 11 European Universities in nine countries. These universities included the University of California at Santa Cruz, U.C. Berkeley, Cambridge, Oxford, and Loyola University in Rome. As a student she attended seminars at the United Nations in Geneva, Switzerland.

Chosen by a HSBA President to be a voting member of the Family Court Legal Interventions, Working Group at the Hawaii State Legislature, she helped to write and pass two laws: Act 114, "In The Best Interest of the Child" and Act 149, "Standards and Procedures for Custody Evaluators" . Dr. Schaller has provided Expert Testimony in Contested Custody, Child Abuse and Family Violence cases between Hawaii and other states. She has an international private practice and has completed a fifth journey around the world checking in on children and families involved in custody cases from Hawaii. In 1992, she was recognized by the American Red Cross for "Selfless Efforts During the Disaster Relief Operation in the Hawaiian Islands" after Hurricane Iniki.

Dr. Schaller' s offices are located on Kauai where she provides treatment and recovery from many diagnosis including Adjustment Disorders, PTSD, Anxiety , Depression, Life Transitions, and Human Trafficking.

Since 2007, Dr. Schaller has actively supported IVAT as an Invited Speaker, Planning Committee, Legislation, Continuing Education, and in 2016 Host Committee member. She provides treatment to patients in recovery and promotes internal, interpersonal and international peace. Dr. Schaller holds the vision of happy, healthy people in a peaceful world. As a survivor and refugee from Childhood Domestic Violence she promotes mediation and peaceful resolutions using words and behavior to deescalate situations. Words become cognitive restructuring which can build: PURE FEELINGS AND GOOD WISHES FOR ALL.
